Smith’s Castle

Order No. 2001

ABOUT:Smith’s Castle is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a National Landmark for its significant archeological discoveries (one of only 54 landmarks in Rhode Island). Just two years after Roger Williams founded Rhode Island, the site became an important trading post established by Williams and trader Richard Smith. Our design is based on the current Smith’s Castle which was built in 1678. This building replaced the former structure destroyed by the Narragansett Tribe following the Great Swamp Fight in which they were attacked by colonial troops during King Phillip’s War. The land on which the house was built was known as Cocumscussoc.—Russ Waterman

STITCHING INFORMATION: Stitch count: 150 stitches wide x 88 high. Our model was stitched on a 14” x 12” piece of light blue 16-count AIDA fabric. This design can be adjusted to any type of fabric. A large color photo, stitching instructions, computer generated chart and floss numbers for your choice of DMC, Anchor & J&B Coats are included.
